Mull of Kintyre Half Marathon and 10k Run - Sunday 24th May 2009

Voted Scotland's number ONE race in 2007 - in only its second year - the Mull of Kintyre Half Marathon and 10k is a truly unforgettable experience for participants and families alike and one not to be missed.  This year's race will take place on Sunday 24th May 2009 when it is hoped there will be 600 entrants.  It isn't just about the race and the runners as the weekend is packed with things for everyone to to.  See below for more information or visit the official MOKRUN website now!

What you can look forward to...

A stunning race in one of the most scenic areas of Scotland.  Based in Campbeltown on the Kintyre peninsula both the 10k and Half Marathon routes are truly wonderful and one you should experience.  If the race is not enough then there is a weekend jam packed with events from bus trips to the wonderful ceilidh on the Sunday evening after the race.  The whole weekend is held round the bank holiday weekend in May so there is no excuse not to visit this stunning part of Scotland!

Friday 22nd May

For anyone arriving on the Friday runners can enjoy FREE use of the Aqualibrium on presentation of their race numbers at reception.  Entry is free.

Saturday 23rd May

Again runners can enjoy FREE use of the Aqualibrium on presentation of their race numbers at reception.  Entry is free.

Minbus tour to Mull of Kintyre Lighthouse - A trip round the south of the Kintyre peninsula on the Saturday morning, taking in the the Mull of Kintyre Lighthouse road (45 minute stop) & St Columba's footprints (10 minute stop) and many other local sights - including optional lunch stop at the world famous Muneroy Stores,  on way back for snack/lunch (not included) - returning to Campbeltown by 12.30pm (or 1.30pm if going for lunch).  Free.

Runners and their families are being given the chance to check out the routes for both races from the comfort of an open top bus on the Saturday afternoon before the races. Free.

On 28 December 2004 Craig entered the history books as the leader of the first ever Scottish expedition to the South Pole. Since completing this feat, Craig has gone on to lecture extensively about his achievements, sharing the knowledge of his techniques of self belief, focus and endurance, so that others can go on and achieve their own ‘South Pole’.  Entry is free.
Pasta Party - 6pm - 8.30pm Pasta Party Aqualibrium

The main event!  10.30 - 10k & Half Marathon Start, 12.00 - Junior Fun Runs
1pm - Prize giving

Post race until 5pm - FREE use of the Aqualibrium swimming pool for runners presenting their race numbers at Aqualibrium reception.

8pm - Ceilidh - Victoria Hall - You can buy tickets for the Pasta Party and Ceilidh when you enter using the entry form. Or subject to availability, later by contacting events@mokrun.com

About MOKRUN

MOKRUN2009 is the fourth year that the races have been run, and it was on the Kintyre Forum that the idea of hosting the first half-marathon and 10k in 2006 was first suggested and where it evolved from an idea to a successful event.
