Kintyre Songwriter's Festival - Friday 29th - Sunday 31st May 2009

The dates for this year's festival have been finalised, and the second Songwriters Festival will kick off on Friday the 29th of May and end with a no-doubt fantastic finale on Saturday 30th May 2009.  If last year's festival is anything to go by, then this year's festival will be an absolute cracker!  Please use this website to find more information about the Festival itself, as well as how to get to Campbeltown. You can also use this website to register to perform.

What you can look forward to...

This year's festival promises to be just as good - if not better - than the fantastic inaugural event in 2008. This year we will be organising some more activities throughout the weekend, so if you're up for it, we've got a fantastic weekend lined up for you! (Just make sure the performers are fit enough to play all weekend!)

Friday 29th May

We take over MacGochans on Friday night, where we kick off the weekend with a great line up of local talent. This night will be a great chance to catch some of the young talent in Kintyre playing loud and electric, and will be a fantastic start to the weekend. Just remember to pace yourself for the rest of the festival!
Entry is free.

Saturday 30th May

This year, we've split the Saturday into two events. In the afternoon, there will be live acoustic sessions in various pubs throughout Campbeltown so you're guaranteed a great start to the main event just about wherever you go - as long as you didn't partake in too much of the local whisky on Friday! If you didn't get an opportunity to play at the evening event, you're more than welcome to come along and jam along with whichever artist you find.
Entry is free

In the evening, the main Songwriters event takes place in the intimate setting of the White Hart hotel. This is where Kintyre's songwriters get the chance to perform their own songs in a more relaxed atmosphere. We'll also be introducing you to a few special guests from outside Kintyre, who we can wholeheartedly recommend. We can't supply you with the drink for the night, but there will be a selection of light snacks available - included in the ticket price. If last year was anything to go by, the end of the night finale will be a very special event indeed.
Tickets, £8

Sunday 31st May

Assuming that we've still got performers standing, on the Sunday there will be acoustic sessions taking place during Sunday afternoon. Given that last year, nobody wanted the festival to end, it's more than likely that Sunday will see the hardened performers give it their all.
Entry is free

About the festival

The idea for a songwriter's festival was conjured up by Kenneth Gilchrist and Ross MacInness. The idea was to bring together the talent from Kintyre in a relaxed environment where they could perform their songs to a likeminded audience.

Unfortunately, Kenneth's death meant that the planning of the festival had to be taken on by a group of friends and family who wished his festival to come to fruition. We hope he would be proud of the event, and we hope that you will join us in celebrating his songs, love and laughter.
