Bayvoyach,
Machrihanish |
|
Bayvoayach is a
charming period stone villa most beautifully situated in a small
village and looking out over Machrihanish Bay with sunsets,
seabirds, seals and, on occasion, otters to be seen. The first
tee of the Machrihanish championship golf links course is
nearby. Within the village there is a pub/restaurant. There are
many superb walks in the neighbourhood. One is along the sandy
beach to West Port; in the other direction lies the Gauldrens, a
dramatic mixture of wild seas, golden sands and cliffs where
sometimes feral goats are to be seen.. |

The nearby town of
Campbeltown offers sailing trips, tourist information, supermarkets,
shopping, hotels, restaurants etc. Activities include golf, fishing,
sea angling, pony trekking and day trips to the islands of Gigha and
Arran. On Gigha are the well known Achamore Gardens where the gulph
stream enables a large number of delicate, semi-tropical plants to
flourish. The island of Davaar, famous for it's cave painting of
Christ is at the mouth of Campbeltown loch and can be visited on
foot at low tide.

Directions |
|
From Glasgow take the
M8 heading towards Greenock as far as the Erskine Bridge. Go over
the bridge and follow the signs to Campbeltown – A82. The
A82 will take you along part of Loch Lomond, briefly around the
top of Loch Long, and a long way down the side of Loch Fyne. At
Tarbet on Loch Lomond stay on the road to Campbeltown – it becomes
the A83 at this point. The A83 will take you all the way to
Campbeltown down the Kintyre peninsula.
Drive into the centre of Campbeltown this will
lead you to a ‘T’ junction. Turn right along Main Street and then
shortly the main road bears round to the right taking you onto the
road to Machrihanish and Southend – it is still the A83.
Stay on this road to Machrihanish (approx 6
miles). At a small village called Stewarton follow the sign to
Machrihanish – this is following the road anyway. You will go
through a small village called Drumlemble. Machrihanish is a
ribbon of houses following the shoreline. Pass the Golf Club on
the left and after approximately 200 yards you will see
Bayvoyach on the left.
